Grand Central tri- mode train
In the UK, we partnered with Hitachi Rail and Angel Trains on a £300 million investment to replace the entire Grand Central fleet with nine battery hybrid trains. The programme includes 45 tri-mode rail cars – which can run on electric, battery and diesel power. The technology has shown it can cut emissions and fuel costs by around 30%, supporting our decarbonisation goals.
Skoda electric train
In the Czech Republic, we partnered with Škoda on a €300 million investment to deliver 22 high-speed electric trains for long-distance routes. The new fleet, capable of operating at speeds of up to 200 km/h, supports the delivery of sustainable passenger services at scale. The partnership demonstrates how targeted collaboration supports Arriva’s European growth strategy and long-term commitment to decarbonisation.
Italian smart charging
In Cremona, Arriva Italy partnered with Bia to deploy a smart-charging platform for electric buses. The system achieved over 95% successful charging sessions, reduced depot peak load by 45% and cut energy costs by around 20%, while maintaining high state-of-charge reliability.
