Arriva bus

Rooted in our local communities

Although Arriva is a pan-European transport group, we’re still a local company at heart in the markets where we operate.

We do much more than get people from A to B; we partner with the private and public sector, as well as with third-party organisations to nurture community talent and skills, assist socially isolated individuals and care for the neighbourhoods we serve and the environment we operate in.

Helping to make services accessible to all

In 2022, Arriva Rail London (ARL) and Waymap, an audio navigation app designed to empower people with visual impairments to travel independently, undertook a trial with ten blind volunteers. Its success was recognised at the British Quality Foundation Excellence Awards, winning the Excellence in Innovation award.

“It was important to us to support this unique trial and show there are cost-effective solutions available to make travelling on public transport more accessible. Waymap’s technology needs to be rolled out across entire transport networks and in public spaces to provide a seamless experience for users, so we are hopeful the results of our trial will help them secure more support for their roll-out.”

Supporting communities in Spain during a power outage

Supporting communities in Spain during a power outage

Arriva Spain colleagues showed exceptional commitment during the major power outage that affected parts of Spain, Portugal and France in 2025. Our teams worked around the clock to keep people moving, provide clear information and ensure passengers could make essential journeys safely. Many colleagues stayed late or volunteered on their days off to minimise the impact on communities. Their response was recognised by Spain’s Minister for Transport, who thanked Arriva for its immediate action, adaptability and critical role in maintaining mobility during a period of significant uncertainty.

Helping children reach their potential in Croatia

Every school day, Arriva buses help thousands of children in Croatia get to class safely and on time. In Osijek-Baranja County, we transport around 2,500 pupils to and from 45 schools, giving families peace of mind and helping local communities stay connected. Arriva supports access to education for nearly 17,000 pupils each day, working with 104 primary and 76 secondary schools.

Regenerating communities in Slovakia

Last year (2025), Arriva colleagues in Slovakia supported their local communities by taking part in Naše Mesto (“Our Town”), the largest corporate volunteering initiative in Central Europe. This was Arriva's fifth consecutive year of involvement, with almost 140 colleagues volunteering their time. Working alongside local organisations and residents, volunteers helped improve public spaces by cleaning and repainting schools, restoring playgrounds, repairing railings, sanding benches and improving green areas.
